The short version
Yakable does not require an account. We collect no personal information from you. The app works entirely offline. The only data collection is anonymous analytics to help us improve the app — and you can read exactly what that means below.
1. Who we are
Yakable is developed and operated by an independent developer. If you have any questions about this policy, contact us at support@yakable.app.
2. Information we collect
2.1 Information you provide
Yakable does not ask you to create an account, enter an email address, or provide any personal information. There is nothing to provide.
2.2 Information stored on your device
The app stores the following data locally on your device only:
- Filter preferences — your chosen spice level, work-safe setting, and group size. Stored in app UserDefaults. Never leaves your device.
- Session state — which questions you've seen in a session, so the app doesn't repeat questions. Cleared on session reset or app restart.
- Onboarding status — a flag indicating whether you've completed the first-launch onboarding. Stored in UserDefaults. Never leaves your device.
- Purchase entitlements — handled entirely by Apple's StoreKit. Yakable does not store or process payment information.
2.3 Analytics data (Firebase Analytics)
The app uses Firebase Analytics (by Google) to collect anonymous, aggregated usage data. This helps us understand how the app is used so we can improve it. The data collected includes:
| Event type | What it records |
|---|---|
| Session start / end | App opened and closed — no personal data |
| Pack selected | Which restaurant was chosen (e.g. "date", "workdrinks") |
| Course selected | Entrée, Main, or Dessert |
| Question shown / skipped | Question ID and dwell time — not the question text or your answer |
| Feature usage | Go Deeper / Keep it Light taps, filter changes |
No personally identifiable information is included in analytics events. Firebase Analytics assigns a random device-level identifier; Yakable does not link this to any user identity.
Firebase Analytics is operated by Google LLC. Their privacy policy is available at policies.google.com/privacy.
You can opt out of analytics collection through iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Apple Advertising (limiting ad tracking also limits analytics identifiers).
3. How we use information
Anonymous analytics data is used solely to:
- Understand which packs and features are most used
- Identify parts of the app that may need improvement
- Inform decisions about future content and features
We do not sell, rent, or share any data with third parties for advertising or profiling purposes.
4. In-app purchases
All purchases are processed by Apple through StoreKit. Yakable never sees or stores your payment details. Purchase entitlements are managed by Apple's receipt validation and are linked to your Apple ID.
5. Children's privacy
Yakable does not knowingly collect any information from children under 13. The app does not require any personal information from any user regardless of age. Some content packs may include questions intended for adults — parental guidance is recommended for younger users.
6. Data retention
Data stored on your device (preferences, session state) persists until you delete the app. Deleting the app removes all locally stored data. Firebase Analytics retains anonymised event data for up to 14 months in accordance with Google's standard retention policy.
7. Your rights
Because Yakable holds no personal information about you, there is no personal data to access, correct, or delete beyond what is stored locally on your own device. If you have questions about Firebase Analytics data, contact Google directly via their privacy controls at myaccount.google.com.
8. Security
All data stored locally on your device is protected by iOS's standard device encryption. We do not operate any servers or databases holding your information.
9. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes materially, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and may display a notice within the app. Continued use of the app after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
